Prop firm payouts and tax in France
No official French position on prop-firm payouts. The residual category under art. 92 CGI is bénéfices non commerciaux (BNC), which covers profits not falling in another category. That is the most likely home for a performance/service fee paid by a foreign firm. Professional (habitual) vs non-professional BNC changes the boxes and the social-contribution treatment.
The France tax office has not ruled on prop-firm payouts specifically. The treatment below applies the general rules for this kind of income. Basis: BOFiP BOI-BNC-CHAMP-10-10-20 (art. 92 CGI): BNC includes income from lucrative occupations/sources of profit not belonging to another category of income; the BOFiP page lists 'opérations de bourse' as a separate sub-category. There is no ruling specific to prop firms.

Registration, costs and currency
- Registering
- Micro-entrepreneur: services threshold €77,700 for 2025 income and €83,600 from 2026 income, based on 2024 or 2025 turnover, with a 34% flat allowance (minimum €305) (service-public F23267). A habitual professional activity needs a business registration through the guichet unique, which brings URSSAF contributions. That registration step is not verified from an official page here. Non-professional BNC needs no business registration. Source: entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr
- Challenge fees and other costs
- Deductible: likely. Under micro-BNC no actual expenses are deductible because the 34% flat allowance replaces them. Under déclaration contrôlée (2035), costs incurred for the activity are deductible under the general BNC rules. No specific guidance on challenge fees.
- Converting to EUR
- No official BNC-specific rule found. BOFiP BOI-BIC-BASE-20-20 §180, which is for BIC/IS, uses the Banque de France rate closest to year-end for receivables. For cash-basis BNC the commonly applied practice is the rate on the day of receipt, but this is UNVERIFIED.

What to watch out for
- Social contributions depend on status: URSSAF micro-entrepreneur rates, SSI under the réel regime, or 17.2% prélèvements sociaux on non-professional BNC. None of these is modelled.
- Do not claim the professional vs non-professional split; it depends on facts.
- The 2042-C-PRO box numbers come from the 2026 campaign (2025 income) brochure; they can change yearly.
- The versement libératoire option is not modelled.
